Amenities offered at VASA Fitness

VASA Fitness may not have invented the HVLP (high-value-low-price) gym category—but it sure is defining it. That means they pack an insane amount of amenities and services, at great pricing to boot. Here's what you can expect:

  • 92% of their locations have childcare/daycare services—that's 47 of 50 gyms.
  • 90% of their locations feature a sauna—we count 46 of 50 gyms.
  • 88% of VASA locations have a pool. We count 45 of 50 gyms as a place to dive into.
  • 86% of their locations have basketball. That's a strong 44 of 50 gyms to shoot hoops at.

HVLP also means gyms packed with all the right equipment and gear. Members at VASA get access to standard gym offerings like:

  • Free weights and benches
  • Cardio machines (ellipticals, stair-masters, treadmills)
  • Strength machines of various sorts
  • Turf areas with kettlebells, sleds, stretching and bodyweight equipment

What we love about VASA Fitness

The hardcore dedication to be one of the best gyms in the entire country. Seriously: VASA has that ability as they continue to grow. It starts with a gigantic amenity set—available at the majority of locations.

  • Quite possibly the best value of all gym chains out there. We look at all the available amenities (at each of their locations) and compare it to average price (at each of their locations).

  • Huge clubs, packed with things to do. Our math comes out to clubs with an average size of 49,888 square feet!

  • Childcare is a priority! 47 of 51 locations (92% of their total) offer up a safe spot for your kids to play... while you do the same. Everybody wins!

What we wish VASA Fitness would improve

We know that VASA Fitness is a great all around option that satisfies their members, but nobody is perfect. Here are a few things we'd like to see form them.

  • We wish VASA would spread their magic far across the country. Everybody should have the opportunity to join such a well rounded fitness chain.

  • Would be nice to see locations open 24-hours-a-day. In our experience, only a small percentage of members workout at night—but they may do so at 24 Hour Fitness and Anytime Fitness.

  • VASA should show some love to popular sports like pickleball, tennis, racquetball and squash. These are (typically) higher-end activities you'll see at luxury country club-style gyms.

How much is VASA Fitness?

VASA gyms are stuffed with incredible amenities. Surprisingly, they also don't charge an arm and leg for access—here are their membership types:

  • $9.99/month Basic, usually an enrollment fee of $139, $79 or $0, if on promotion. You can use their cardio machines, free weights, various strength machines.
  • $24.99/month Premium, $49 to enroll but often on promo to $0. You'll get all the above plus access to all 50+ locations, group fitness/cycle classes, pool/spa, sauna/steam, basketball and kidcare.
  • $39.99/month Studio, $49 to enroll but we see a promotional price down to $0. All the above plus STUDIO RED HIIT classes.

We're ecstatic that most locations have this pricing setup. Their $10/$25/$50 price-points are the same at most of their locations: it's primarily the enrollment fee that fluctuates during their promotional periods.

Also, not all locations have all amenities—so for example, in Phoenix at Premium membership you'll get basketball, light therapy and kidcare. The Salt Lake City Brickyard,at Premium membership brings in a massage lounge, tanning and fitness cinema.

We like how you don't have to pay first-and-last dues during signup, just the first. You'll also get a $49.99 "Rate Guarantee Fee" every year as the annual fee—billed for your first time 60 days after signing up.

  • $49.99 "Rate Guarantee Fee—AKA annual fee—billed 60 days after the start of your membership, and every year thereafter.
  • Enrollment fees at VASA have ranged from $79 to $139. However, on promotions, we've seen it drop to $0.

Final thoughts — Is VASA Fitness worth it?

Gym Pricing Tiers Explained

There are 3-4 main pricing tiers that nearly all gyms across the country fall into. Generally, higher prices = more amenities and services.

$10 - $25 /month — Value

  • Standard/basic equipment
  • Cardio machines: treadmills, ellipticals
  • Various free-weights, strength machines

$15 - $30 /month — High Value Low Price

  • All the above, plus a few have saunas or pools
  • Massage and/or Tanning options
  • Expect newer style amenities like Olympic lifting platforms, functional turf and cardio cinema.

$25 - $65 Monthly — Mid-Tier

  • All the above, placed in larger facilities and spaces. Pools, saunas and steam are a must.
  • Basketball courts and childcare were the main amenities.
  • These are your "older" more aged "big-box" gyms, often with hundreds of locations spanning the country

$65 and up  — Boutique/Specialty/Luxury

  • Highest end cardio equipment with advanced, expensive machines
  • Specialty group training and fitness classes
  • Luxury or boutique locker rooms, workspaces and lounges

"Is this gym worth it?"

Use our guides to help inform and educate what a gym can offer your fitness lifestyle. Only you can truly decide if a gym is worth it!

It's no secret: we're huge fans of VASA Fitness, and you should be too. Sometimes a gym will have all the most amazing amenities. Sometimes a gym will have excellent pricing options. In this case for VASA, both are true at the same time.

  • Following the principles of "HVLP" —high value, low price—VASA at their Basic membership for $9.99 offers all the basics: cardio, free weights, strength machines of various sorts. You'll also get the turf aka functional training area.
  • At their $24.99 Premium tier, you unlock amenities like fitness cinema, massage lounge, tanning, basketball, pool/spa, steam/sauna, guest privileges and more. Whew! what a list.

At this price-point, it's often equivalent to other gyms' entry offering. Comparing a VASA location in Phoenix to an LA Fitness 10min away: $39.99 a month, with a higher initiation and annual fee. They don't have tanning nor guest privileges like VASA too.

In this case: absolutely worth it. Let's keep going though—

  • Their higher tier, $39.99 Studio membership brings along unlimited STUDIO RED HIIT classes, additional guest passes, and a few other rewards/discounts. The HIIT (high-intensity-interval-training) classes by itself at other gyms run $30 to $40, each session. Joining in on this fun at VASA just once a month would "pay" for your membership—another "worth it!" moment.

Let's end with the VASA experience, ambiance and attitude. You get newer, fresher, cleaner locations. Many of their gyms were built or refreshed in the past five years, giving members an up-to-date and modern experience during their workouts. That means treadmills that aren't always broken, Or StairMasters that don't clunk and make noise. What about bathrooms that aren't falling apart?

While this won't be true at every single one of their locations, the general trend with VASA remains: their gyms are younger and better kept.

Altogether, it looks like VASA cracked the high-value-low-price code, providing members with incredible value in fantastic spaces. Members seem to agree, with an average 4.2 Google score across all 50 gyms we're tracking. We're sure they're enjoying their fitness journey here, and you probably will too. VASA: 100% worth it!
