What we love about NYSC

Full service, bold gym chain from New York that has spread across the North East. Solid array and mix of amenities, with pools, saunas and steam available at several locations.

  • New Yorkers, especially in Manhattan, have over 10 different locations to choose from. NYSC has clubs in Downtown, Midtown and Uptown.

  • Swimmers rejoice! You can take a dip at the E 45th Street indoor pool. Love how you can swim some laps for a refreshing workout.

  • Pickup basketball—indoors—is always fun. We count 6 locations from the chain where you can shoot some hoops.

What we wish NYSC would improve

Pretty sure that New York Sports Clubs checks off most of the needs for their members, but there are still a few things we'd like to see.

  • In the city that never sleeps, this gym chain unfortunately does, as it has has zero locations open 24-hours-a-day.

  • Babysitting were an option at more of their clubs. Childcare is only available at 3 of their gyms.

  • Squash was available at more than just 3 gyms. Did you know that NYSC originally started 50 years ago (1973) as a small chain of squash clubs?

How much is NYSC?

We count two different NYSC membership types, ranging in price from $34.99 to $89.99 monthly. We looked at four different clubs across the country:

  • $34.99 to $49.99 - Single club access with unlimited group fitness classes. You get all the free weights, strength machines and equipment, plus cardio that you can handle.
  • $79.99 to $89.99 - All club access includes all the above, plus workouts across New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington DC, Pennsylvania and Florida.

There is a $29 join fee that'll be charged during checkout, along with a $69 annual fee, Expect the annual fee to hit your account about 15 days after enrollment, as well as every year.

The W125th Street location in NYC had a December 2023 promo that stripped away the first month dues, so a good savings of $49.99 to start.

Some locations, like the W 16th Street and 23rd Park in New York City don't offer single club access—your only option is the $89.99 all club access.

  • You'll pay a $69 annual fee to NYSC that's billed a fast 15 days after your membership starts.
  • It's a $29 initiation fee, billed during your sign-up. This is on the lower end for most gym chains.

NYSC—New York Sports Clubs—underwent a transformation during the pandemic. With a name change that shed the labels "Philadelphia Sports Club" and "Boston Sports Club," NYSC also had a chance to rebrand, refresh and rebuild their gyms. What's that mean for you? Gyms that are more closely aligned in their offerings. Pricing that works and amenities that fit their member base.

They're an edgy and impactful brand, and it shows on their website and social. It's giving get-work-done! typa vibes, which fits the NYC lifestyle well. All that translates into gyms with amenities like "functional turf" and "performance lab." Heck, their "grab and go coolers" will get you the right stuff as you head out to your next adventure.

Walk into any location for a workout with free weights, strength machines, kettlebells and more. We like the inclusion of turf, allowing bodyweight exercises, stretching and more. All the basics of a solid workout—a setup that's worth it to many New Yorkersthey may even unwind in the available saunas.

Thats where it ends though, as the total amenity list isn't super extensive. Need a pool? Just 99 of their gyms have one. Or a place to shoot hoops Just 99

What about a place to watch your kid (childcare) or

So, you'll need to be selective with NYSC, checking the in
