Sauna fans are always asking us about this popular fitness chain!

Ready to turn up the heat?  Like others, you've discovered the immense benefits of a sauna. You love the hot hot heat, and the way it draw toxins and impurities from your skin. We are on the same vibe my friend: that fresh out of the sauna' feeling is purely addictive!

Here at gymscompared.com, people are always asking us if a certain gym has a sauna. And we can clearly see why it makes sense: Folks are either warming up muscles before their workouts, or relaxing sore ones once their session is complete. Bottom line: the sauna is a key amenity to help achieve your fitness goals.

More and more gyms across the country have added a sauna (or two!) for their members—and we've done all the research for you.

Tell me more about LA Fitness!

Yup! LA Fitness definitely has saunas for their members. In fact, this gym chain has the most amount of saunas in the country.

The health and wellness benefits of this amazing amenity can be experienced here, with a sauna at nearly 90% of Gold's locations. Scroll to the bottom of this page to see which one.

So, which locations have a sauna?

With 466 total LA Fitness locations in the United States, we count 417 of them having a sauna—as of March 2024!

Truly a stunning amount, as this chain has locations all over Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas and more! Those looking to combine their workouts with a sauna will likely have LA Fitness on their list.

Collectively, this gym chain accounts for about 30% of all saunas we're tracking in the country.

Just a single height on this LA Fitness sauna. We do like the dual height benches (more room) that other chains have done.

What to wear to the sauna at LA Fitness

We're unaware of a specific dress code for using the sauna at LA Fitness. But, here are some general guidelines we've seen:

  • Expect to sweat—so dress accordingly. Yep, the heat will turn up your internal temps and sweat will soon follow. Make sure you're wearing clothes that wick and/or absorb your sweat easily.
  • Make sure you're comfortable: most folks we've seen in the sauna are wearing the same athletic sportswear they use on the gym floor. Shorts, leggings, t-shirts and such.
  • There are of course several recommended items to not wear: such as jeans, coats and heavy clothing.

How hot is the sauna at LA Fitness?

Unfortunately we're not sure on the exact temperature at this gym chain—but we're looking into it. Of course, there will be variances between each location as well.

In our experience:

  • Most traditional saunas we've seen have their temperatures set between 150 and 175 degrees F.
  • Infrared saunas usually aren't quite as hot, and hover around 120 and 140 degrees F.

Are the saunas free at LA Fitness?

Yep, sure is. Sauna is included in your monthly membership fee.  This is a feature-rich gym chain, so access to sauna will most times include the pool, whirlpool spa (hot tub) and more.

If you're in a location that has several LA Fitness' (and Esporta!) nearby, you of course would be able to use their saunas as well!

Are there separate saunas for men and women?

Sorry, we don't know that yet. Check back here or join our mailing list for our latest updates.

What kind of sauna does LA Fitness have?

LA Fitness gyms have the "traditional" sauna (vs "infrared). While there are other types, these are by far the most popular at all of the national, large gym chains we cover. The difference between the two? Primarily how they distribute heat

  • Traditional saunas use heated stones and water to heat the surrounding air—creating an atmosphere that is both hot and humid.
  • Infrared saunas are "light" aka UV based, and give direct warmth to heat the body—similar to the feeling when you step into the sun, but at a much higher temperature, of course.

Which is better? It's personal preference—but there's a reason the traditional is usually the standard.

In conclusion

So, LA Fitness is probably top of your list for a sauna, especially since it's likely they have a gym near you. Do know that their price point is mid-tier, around $40 and up monthly. You do of course benefit from many other amenities (steam, pool, hot tub) if available, so the overall value gets better. Overall, a solid option for all you sauna lovers!
